School Information

Bromley Beacon Academy (BBA) is a member of London South East Academies Trust, a MAT consisting of schools which are a mix of special, alternative and main stream provisions. BBA converted to academy status in February 2016 and is designated as a Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) school, located on three sites in the London Borough of Bromley, namely, Midfield (BTAM -KS1), Orpington (BBAO - KS2&3) and Bromley (BBAB - KS4&5)

Since opening its doors in 2016, Bromley Beacon Academy, has been committed in its vision to provide an outstanding education to all of its pupils and young people from all backgrounds. In so doing, our pupils will acquire the values, skills, knowledge and understanding to prepare them for life beyond the classroom and subsequently succeed.

We aim to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and resilience that supports our pupils to grow into purposeful young adults so they are able to contribute to society in a positive way by offering the following:

  • Specialist staff who are highly committed and have extremely high expectations of every pupil to ensure that our young people achieve their potential
  • The opportunity for pupils to experience a wide variety of curriculum subjects and enrichment programmes
  • A strong and effective partnership with parents to provide the necessary support for every pupil as we believe the education of our young people is a shared responsibility

At the Orpington campus (BBAO) we cater specifically for 7-13-year olds (Key Stages 2 & 3) with a hub at Bromley Trust Academy, Midfield for our Key Stage 1 pupils.  The focus is on developing core skills of literacy and numeracy, whilst offering a broad range of other curriculum areas to provide real interest for our pupils. At the Bromley campus (BBAB), we cater for 14-19 year olds with a focus on embedding core skills in addition to vocational qualifications including, Music, Food Studies, Construction and Motor Bike. This is reflective in our intent for teaching and learning at all three sites and demonstrated through our core values as follows;

  • BTAM - DECIDE (discovery, endeavour, community, independence, decisions, everyday)
  • BBAO - LIFE (learning, independence, friendship, emotions)
  • BBAB – RIHTT (relationship, integrity, honesty, trust, teamwork)

Hence, we prepare all our pupils to DECIDE and get LIFE RIHTT

We are on an exciting learning journey and believe that with the support of all stakeholders, we are able to achieve our absolute best for all our pupils and School. This was validated by OFSTED when they wrote

“Expectations at the school are extremely high, with staff demonstrating an unrelenting ambition for pupils from the moment they join. Pupils master new knowledge and skills as they progress through the school. Staff provide a comprehensive range of opportunities for pupils’ personal development, including cookery, banking, construction, DJ’ing, and even motorcycle lessons. The school’s partnership with a national football club offers pupils the opportunity to develop strong functional skills through the context of sport”. (Ofsted March 2024)

After 13 years at the school, I was extremely proud to have been appointed as the Headteacher across all phases in June 2022. My ambition is to drive the accomplishments of the Academy further, enabling our young learners to develop and achieve the essential skills needed to be happy, confident and successful in order to flourish in adult life as citizens of this country.

As the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of London South-East Academies Trust, I am very proud of our pupils and young people who attend them; who we teach, guide and support so that they develop the knowledge, skills, emotional and social maturity to make thoughtful decisions and become purposeful young adults.

We are able to deliver this through a broad and balanced curriculum delivered by dedicated specialist teachers and support staff who provide an educational experience that enriches the lives of our young people.

By focusing on academic, social and emotional well being, we improve our pupils' life chances and provide the necessary guidance and support to allow them to follow appropriate pathways into further education and/or employment so they become good, moral citizens.

Neil Miller - Deputy Chief Executive Officer
